Classes That We Offer


 

Introduction to Ballet and Tap (3-5 year olds): In this combination class students will be given an introduction to ballet positions and an introduction to tap dance for children. Tap technique will be established through exercises, creative movement, and center floor activities, while also teaching them posture and grace during the ballet portion. Attire: Girls – blue, pink or purple leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes & tap shoes, hair pulled back. Boys- white t-shirt, black or blue shorts, white socks, black ballet shoes & tap shoes.

 

Introduction to Hip Hop and Jazz (3-5 year olds): In this combination class students will learn how to shimmy and shake to get their wiggles out, while also introducing high energy, fast moving pre-jazz technique. This class will be upbeat and entertaining for your child. Attire: Girls - leotard, caramel tights, sneakers & jazz shoes, hair pulled back. Boys- t-shirt, shorts or jazz pants, boots or sneakers & jazz shoes.

 

Tiny Tumblers: An introduction to acro class. This is a fun, fast moving class that teaches the basics of gymnastics, body awareness and motor coordination. Attire: Leotard, tank/tee that is fitted, booty shorts, barefoot, hair up.

 

Beginner Ballet: Students will learn ballet positions, posture and grace with this education in ballet, which is the foundation of all dance forms. Attire: Girls - black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, hair must be in a ponytail. Boys - White t-shirt, black jazz pants, white socks, and black ballet shoes.

 

Beginner Intermediate Ballet: This class will reinforce the basic concepts learned in Beginner Ballet while focusing on ballet terminology, center exercises and more complex combinations. Attire: Girls- Black Leotard, pink tights, ballet skirt (optional), pink ballet shoes. Boys- White t-shirt, black jazz pants, white socks and black ballet shoes.

 

Intermediate Ballet: Ballet is the “backbone” of all dance training. In ballet the student will learn grace, elegance, technique, discipline, flexibility, stamina, and endurance. Ballet vocabulary recognition and motor memory are established. Attire: Girls - Black Leotard, pink tights, ballet skirt, pink ballet shoes. Boys - White t-shirt, black jazz pants, white socks and black ballet shoes.

 

Pre Pointe: This class if offered for students who are not yet on pointe to further develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to go en pointe. Teachers will use this class to assess readiness and evaluate important skills.

 

Advanced Ballet - Technique: Ballet vocabulary recognition, strength, muscle and motor memory are established. A focus on correct alignment and placement and an emphasis begins to shift from alignment to quality of movement. Increased vocabulary and mastery in all disciplines is emphasized. Attire: Girls – Black Leotard, pink tights, ballet skirt, pink ballet shoes. Boys - White t-shirt, black jazz pants, white socks and black ballet shoes.

 

Advanced Ballet - Pointe: An exploration of the upper level and discipline of ballet technique that is known as pointe work.

 

Improv/Choreography: This class is designed to help emerging artists to challenge their habits and move more deeply into their process. The class is geared towards the development of a personal method that is effective and inspiring for young choreographers. Some topics covered include inventing movement, making movement meaningful, daring and defining space, and creativity. Attire: Leotard, bra top, booty shorts, dance pants, etc. half ballet/jazz shoes/bare feet, hair pulled up.

 

Floor Work: Floor work refers to movement performed on the floor. Floor work changes the body's relationship with gravity, and requires dancers to navigate between higher and lower levels. Executing floor work smoothly involves flexible joints, a relaxed body, controlled core and use of breath. Attire: Leotard, bra top, booty shorts, dance pants, etc. half ballet/jazz shoes/bare feet, hair pulled up.

 

Fusion: Fusion is a combination of several dance styles and movements reflecting current trends in pop culture. We see Fusion dance as embracing the possibility of “What If?” This class will allow students to express themselves without judgment and connect to their own personal style. Attire: Leotard, bra top, booty shorts, dance pants, etc. half ballets/jazz shoes/bare feet, hair pulled up.

 

Body Conditioning: This class is designed to build stamina & condition the body for difficult tricks & aerobic requirements needed for advanced dancing. Attire: Leotard, bra top, booty shorts, bare feet and hair up.

 

Beginner/Intermediate Acting: In this class students will explore acting using exercises, theatre games and improvisation to develop their acting skills. Focus will be placed on basic improv, movement, and teamwork through acting with a partner.

 

Intermediate/Advanced Acting: A further exploration into acting through exercises, theatre games and improvisation. Methods of acting will be introduced through various teachings and exercises. Deeper characterization and motivation is explored through intention.

 

Acro (Beginner, Beginner/Intermediate, Intermediate, and Advanced): Developing strength, balance & flexibility while learning basic to advanced gymnastic skills. Attire: Leotard, bra top, booty shorts, barefoot, hair up.

 

Adult Tap/Jazz Class: A focus will be placed on body isolations, rhythms, building strength and flexibility. You will learn how to articulate your feet and ankles while exploring musicality and syncopation. Class will consist of a warm-up, center and across the floor technique, and combinations. Wear something you can move in. Jazz and Tap shoes available at the front desk.

 

Mommy/Daddy & Me (18 mos – 3 yrs old): 30 minute class which includes creative movement, tumbling, listening & motor skill development, learning to take turns, following directions & interacting with new friends. We also learn SIGN LANGUAGE! Wear comfortable clothes that we can all move in! This class will be available for monthly ($35/month) or per class payments ($10/class) for the summer. Summer session is 4 weeks for this class, with class beginning on 07/05 and ending on 07/26.
